Neurorehabilitation

A comprehensive process designed to help individuals recover function, independence, and quality of life following nervous system injuries or illnesses.

Following brain injury of any sort, whether that is through a stroke, TBI, a related health condition (i.e. heart condition) or a progressive disease (i.e. MS), our cognitive processes are generally negatively changed. This includes memory, executive functioning, processing speed, attention, and concentration, among other areas commonly affected by brain injuries. These difficulties can alter the way you live, making even everyday tasks more difficult than before. Neurorehabilitation is a form of therapy in which I will aim to teach you techniques and strategies to overcome these new difficulties.

Some medical conditions may result in mild cognitive impairment, which, although most people are not concerned about, you are aware of. This awareness can lead to stress, low mood and worry about the future. It can help to learn cognitive strategies to help with these deficits so that other psychological issues, such as depression and anxiety, do not surface.

A few of the health conditions that can lead to cognitive impairments include:

  • Stroke
  • Traumatic Brain Injury
  • Brain Tumours
  • Brain Infections
  • Brain haemorrhages
  • Cardiac Arrest
  • Hypoxic brain injury
  • Diabetes
  • Respiratory conditions
  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Progressive Deteriorating Conditions
  • Mild Cognitive Impairment
